Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has promised to restore electricity to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli Campus, ending a 21-year-long power outage.
During a one-day visit to the campus, Soludo outlined his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure in the university and its surrounding community. A statement by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, confirmed the intervention.
“After 21 years without electricity, students at Uli Campus will soon enjoy power supply,” the statement read. Soludo added that Uli town would also benefit from the project, reinforcing his party’s inclusive governance philosophy.
Beyond electricity, Soludo pledged to enhance the digital infrastructure by providing Wi-Fi and internet access across the campus. He emphasized the importance of digital skills in today’s world, stating, “Digitalisation will give this campus an advantage.”
Plans to improve internal roads and develop abandoned projects within the campus were also announced. Soludo urged the community to safeguard the institution’s facilities and stressed his government’s focus on investing in quality education.
The Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Omenugha, expressed gratitude for the governor’s support, highlighting progress in accreditation and the potential for transforming Uli Campus into a hub of excellence.
Present at the visit were Commissioner for Education Prof. Ngozi Chuma-deh, Chief of Staff Ernest Ezeajughi, and other state officials, who reiterated their support for Soludo’s education-friendly initiatives.
This marks a significant step in addressing long-standing challenges at the university, promising better academic and living conditions for students and staff alike.
