Ruud van Nistelrooy, the newly appointed manager of Leicester City, has spoken about his departure from Manchester United last month. The Dutchman, who was temporarily promoted to interim manager after Erik ten Hag’s sacking, revealed he felt “hurt” and “disappointed” when he was not retained by new manager Ruben Amorim.
In an interview, Van Nistelrooy explained, “I was here to help United and stay to help United. I meant it, so it really disappointed me when I had to leave.” He added that the only role he would have accepted as an assistant manager was at United due to his strong bond with the club and its fans.
Van Nistelrooy went on to describe a constructive conversation with Amorim, which helped him understand the manager’s decision. He acknowledged that Amorim, as a fellow manager, had to make tough choices for the team’s future.
