The Katsina State government has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ocean Solutions Energie, a Paris-based renewable energy company, to enhance access to sustainable electricity.
Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda and his Special Adviser on Power and Energy, Hafiz Ibrahim Ahmed, formalized the agreement in Paris following discussions with development partners and industry experts. Representing Ocean Solutions Energie, Chairman Minkaila Salami emphasized the shared commitment to advancing renewable energy in line with Nigeria’s net-zero emission goals by 2060.
As part of the initiative, Governor Radda announced plans for a pilot project at Danja Dam, focusing on establishing a mini hydroelectric power station. This station will provide renewable energy for irrigation systems, water treatment plants, small and medium enterprises, and local households.
The project aligns with the Electricity Act of 2023, which encourages decentralized energy solutions and integrates renewable sources into Nigeria’s power grid. It also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7, which advocates for affordable and clean energy.
“The Katsina State government is dedicated to providing financial support for the project’s success and long-term sustainability,” Governor Radda assured in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed.
With plans to replicate this model across the state’s 43 dams, the initiative represents a significant step toward improving energy access and fostering economic growth in Katsina State.
