Segun Sowunmi, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has not made any clear indication about contesting the 2027 presidential election. Sowunmi, who served as Atiku’s campaign spokesperson, emphasized that the PDP is a highly structured party, where every candidate, including for the presidency, must go through a competitive primary process.
Speaking to News Central TV, Sowunmi reiterated that the PDP does not offer its tickets without competition, unlike some rival parties. He further noted that it is premature for the party to focus on the 2027 election while it still needs to resolve internal issues and strengthen its structure.
Sowunmi revealed that he had personally asked Atiku about his plans for the 2027 election on two separate occasions, but the former vice president has yet to make his intentions clear. This suggests that any speculation about Atiku’s candidacy is premature until there is an official announcement.
