Crusoe Osagie, media aide to former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, has criticized the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo for its decision to probe Obaseki’s tenure. Osagie described the move as a distraction aimed at covering up Okpebholo’s lack of direction and competence in office.
In a statement, Osagie dismissed the probe as “meaningless theatrics,” accusing Okpebholo of using political diversions to avoid addressing his unpreparedness for governance. He likened the governor’s actions to a “gladiatorial duel,” designed to deceive the public with distractions instead of addressing pressing issues.
Osagie emphasized that Obaseki’s administration was one of the most transparent and accountable in Nigeria, refuting the need for such an investigation. He also criticized Okpebholo’s government for its multiple probes, including investigations into civil servant employment, Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), and state assets, calling them “empty charades.”
While Okpebholo’s government has announced the formation of a 14-member State Assets Verification Committee to begin the probe on November 26, Osagie expressed confidence that Edo State’s citizens are too discerning to be misled by such tactics.
