Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has inaugurated the newly elected local government chairmen and their deputies, vowing to end tyranny and hooliganism in the state. Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony held at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, the governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to peace, inclusivity, and grassroots development.
Abiodun condemned recent election-related disturbances in Iperu-Remo, where thugs and unauthorized security personnel disrupted the process. He assured the public that those responsible would be prosecuted.
“The era of hooliganism and impunity is over in Ogun State. As the Chief Security Officer, I will ensure that anyone involved in these disturbances—no matter their rank—is brought to justice,” he declared.
The governor revealed that unauthorized policemen involved in the chaos had been disarmed and detained at Eleweran. He commended law enforcement agencies for maintaining order during the elections and urged the new chairmen to prioritize security in their councils.
Commitment to Good Governance
Governor Abiodun charged the local government chairmen to focus on fairness, inclusivity, and innovation in governance. He encouraged them to align with the state’s ISEYA development agenda, which prioritizes infrastructure, social development, education, youth empowerment, and agriculture.
“You are elected to serve all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations. Embrace innovation to boost revenue and deliver impactful programs,” he advised.
Abiodun described the peaceful elections as a reflection of the people’s confidence in his administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC). He urged the new leaders to uphold this trust by addressing grassroots challenges and mentoring future leaders.
Responding on behalf of the chairmen, Hon. Olasile Odulate, Chairman of Sagamu Local Government Area, thanked the governor and the electorate for their support. He pledged to uphold good governance principles and deliver transformative leadership in all council areas.
The event marked a new chapter for local governance in Ogun State, with hopes for a more secure, inclusive, and development-driven future.
