Two opposition candidates in the Ondo governorship election, Ayo Olorunfemi of the Labour Party (LP) and Myson Aderemi Nejo of the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC), have extended their congratulations to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on his re-election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Aiyedatiwa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, as the winner of the poll held over the weekend.
In a statement on Monday, Olorunfemi described the governor’s victory as a reflection of the people’s will. He extended his best wishes, emphasizing the need for collaboration in advancing peace and development in Ondo State.
“Please accept my warm congratulations on your victory and my best wishes for your success as you prepare to take up the responsibilities of your high office. I look forward to working with you to foster closer relations based on shared values,” Olorunfemi said.
Similarly, Aderemi Nejo, who placed third in the election, praised the peaceful conduct of the process. He noted that the election largely adhered to the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.
“The conduct of the election, despite its imperfections, reflects substantial compliance with the law,” Aderemi stated. He also expressed optimism for continued development in the state under Aiyedatiwa’s leadership.
The election, which took place on November 16, 2024, was widely monitored and deemed transparent by various stakeholders. Aiyedatiwa’s victory reinforces his position as a leader with the backing of the Ondo electorate.
