CAF Champions League: Beat Opponents, Bring the Cup Home— Okpebholo Charges Edo Queens

-

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has urged Edo Queens FC of Benin, currently competing in the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League in Casablanca, Morocco, to defeat South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns and bring home the cup. In a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Okpebholo lauded the team for their remarkable performance so far and encouraged them to secure a win over Sundowns to advance to the semifinals as Group B leaders.

Okpebholo expressed his unwavering support for the team, emphasizing that despite the recent leadership change in Edo State, the new administration stands firmly behind the team. He assured the players that their efforts in Morocco have not gone unnoticed. “We are aware of your exploits and encourage you to keep dominating,” he said. “I want our girls to be at Sundowns on Saturday and win for me. Go ahead to also win the cup and bring it to your fatherland.”

The Governor reiterated that sports would be prioritized in his administration, reaffirming his commitment to the growth of athletics in Edo State.

Edo Queens will face defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns in their final group match on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 6 pm. The team, having secured a 3-0 victory over Commercial Bank of Ethiopia and a goalless draw with Masar FC of Egypt, leads Group B and only needs a draw to qualify for the semifinals.
