The University of Ibadan College Hospital (UCH) has been disconnected from the national power grid due to an unpaid electricity debt of N400 million. The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) stated that the hospital failed to fulfill its commitment to clear the debt, prompting the disconnection.
IBEDC spokesperson, Busolami Tunwase, confirmed the action, explaining that the decision was driven by increasing pressure to meet financial obligations. Tunwase also emphasized IBEDC’s willingness to discuss flexible payment options with UCH, which has struggled with energy costs, particularly after recent tariff hikes.
IBEDC previously disconnected UCH over similar debts, and the unpaid bills continue to contribute to liquidity issues within Nigeria’s power sector.
