Northern Youth Group Condemns Kano Lawmaker for Supporting Tax Reform

-

The Northern Youth Assembly has strongly criticized House of Representatives member Abdulmumin Jibrin, representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, for endorsing the controversial tax reform bill introduced by the Tinubu administration.

In a recent TV interview, Jibrin was reported to have openly supported the “anti-North” tax reform, which has sparked backlash across the region. The Assembly, through a statement signed by Comrade Mohammed Hussaini Bauchi, expressed disappointment with Jibrin’s stance, claiming that his support for the bill undermines the economic and commercial interests of Northern Nigeria.

The statement accused Jibrin of neglecting the pressing socio-economic challenges facing the North, including inadequate electricity supply, insecurity, poverty, and poor infrastructure. The Youth Assembly argued that endorsing the tax reform, in its current form, would exacerbate the struggles of businesses and families in the region, already burdened by unreliable power, policy inconsistency, and lack of government support.

“The purpose of your election was to address these critical issues through effective legislation, not to advance an agenda that could marginalize the people you represent,” the statement read.

The Assembly emphasized the need for Northern leaders to prioritize regional interests and work towards resolving the area’s challenges rather than supporting policies that could further harm the economic wellbeing of their constituents.
