In an exclusive interview with Pulse Nigeria, acclaimed Nollywood director Femi D. Ogunsanwo shared insights into his role as showrunner for Omera, the latest Africa Magic original series. Ogunsanwo, previously the showrunner for Masquerades of Aniedo (MOA), discussed the complexities of managing a television series, noting that actors and crew members often leave mid-project, which disrupts production. To counter this, he insists on hiring replacements who match the show’s quality standards.
Ogunsanwo explained that working with a mostly new cast for Omera* was both a risk and a chance for growth, as casting was based on auditions rather than prior collaborations. Despite the challenges, he expressed confidence in the evolution of Nigerian TV, attributing recent improvements to a more discerning audience and increased competition from global streaming platforms.
Through Omera, Ogunsanwo aims to teach viewers life lessons about integrity and the consequences of “burning bridges.” He hopes that the series will resonate with audiences through relatable storytelling and meaningful subliminal messages.
