The House of Representatives Committee on Renewable Energy has summoned key government ministers to address the utilization of over $2 billion in investments and grants allocated for renewable energy development in Nigeria since 2015. Those expected to appear on Wednesday include Agriculture and Food Security Minister Abubakar Kyari, Science and Technology Minister Uche Nnaji, and Budget and Economic Planning Minister Atiku Bagudu.
Led by Afam Ogene, the committee expressed dissatisfaction on Tuesday as the ministers sent representatives instead of appearing in person. Ogene emphasized the authority vested in the National Assembly to probe public officers, reminding the ministers of their responsibility to account for public funds.
The investigation aims to understand why power issues persist despite significant financial investments. Ogene urged officials to attend in person to ensure accountability, adding that further absences would not be tolerated. Other agencies and institutions, including the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Union Bank, and the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, are also expected to appear in support of the investigation.
