Doyin Okupe Declares He Will Not Support Peter Obi Again

-

Doyin Okupe, the former Director-General of Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, has publicly stated that he will not support the former Anambra State governor again. During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Okupe expressed his disappointment over Obi’s actions since the election.

Okupe’s comments come after he faced backlash for endorsing President Bola Tinubu’s economic recovery plan. He addressed critics by asserting their ignorance regarding his support. He elaborated on his decision not to back Obi, emphasizing a prior agreement among political leaders for a Southern president, specifically from the South East.

“I cannot support Peter Obi again. The reason is because what we agreed was that a Southern President must emerge. Baba Adebanjo called me and said if a Southern President must emerge, which zone must it emerge from? And I said South East. Let’s support them,” Okupe stated.

He further criticized Obi, saying, “And all eminent Yoruba people supported you; why now bring us down publicly? It’s wrong.” Okupe’s statements highlight a significant rift in political alliances and the challenges faced by leaders within Nigeria’s complex political landscape.
