The Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) has announced the deployment of 10,517 personnel for the upcoming local government and ward elections scheduled for Saturday, November 2, 2024. This information was confirmed by CROSIEC Chairman Dr. Ekong Edet Boco during a press briefing in Calabar.
Dr. Boco stated that 9,843 ad hoc staff have been trained, with each of the 3,281 polling units across the state’s 18 local government areas set to receive three staff members. Additionally, the team will include 460 supervisors, 18 returning officers, and 196 collation officers, all of whom have undergone training for their roles in the elections.
Addressing concerns about the integrity of the electoral process, Boco refuted rumors that election results had been predetermined. “These are the blank result sheets and other documents to be used during the exercise. It is not true that the results have been written in advance,” he emphasized.
All ad hoc personnel have taken oaths of allegiance and secrecy, ensuring their commitment to conducting the elections fairly. Boco reiterated that any misconduct by officials will not be tolerated.
In a display of transparency, Boco distributed sensitive electoral materials in the presence of officials from the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), security personnel, and journalists, further affirming the integrity of the electoral process in Cross River State.
