A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has suspended the party’s National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, along with National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade. The suspensions were announced by the party’s National Director of Publicity, Chinwe Nnorom, following the NWC’s 593rd meeting.
The faction directed Ologunagba and Ajibade to step aside while an investigation into allegations against them takes place. A committee led by Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja has been formed to look into the issues raised.
In a twist, Ologunagba also declared the suspensions of Damagum and Anyanwu. The NWC’s statement highlighted concerns over a letter addressed by the duo to the Court of Appeal regarding a case involving 27 former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who vacated their seats upon defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The NWC condemned this action as anti-party and in violation of the PDP Constitution and their Oath of Office.
As a result, Damagum and Anyanwu have been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for further action under Sections 57, 58, and 59 of the PDP Constitution.
