A Federal High Court in Abuja has reinstated Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP). The court ruled that the 2024 Labour Party national convention, held in Nnewi, where Abure was re-elected, was valid and conducted in accordance with Nigerian laws.
This ruling, delivered by Justice Emeka Nwite, was confirmed in a statement released by the Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, on Tuesday. The judgement also directs the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to officially recognize Abure’s leadership and grant all necessary privileges to the National Working Committee (NWC) led by him.
Previously, INEC had refused to acknowledge Abure as the party’s chairman, claiming that his re-election at the March 2024 National Convention violated both the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act. However, with this court decision, Abure has been reaffirmed as the legitimate leader of the Labour Party.
