Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has urged his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, to allow peace to prevail in the state. Fubara made this appeal during an interview on Channels Television’s *Politics Today* on Monday.
Despite opposition from factions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), Fubara defended his decision to proceed with the local government elections held last Saturday. He expressed confidence in his actions and called on Wike to relinquish any lingering influence he holds over the South-South state.
“I’ve done everything possible for peace to reign,” Fubara stated, recounting the numerous attempts he made to resolve the tensions, including humbling himself and pleading for peace.
Addressing what he would say if he met Wike, Fubara added: “It’s time to let go. You don’t have to win every battle. Sometimes, for the love of Rivers State and its people, it’s better to let things be. We must ensure the security and stability of the state, even beyond my tenure.”
Fubara emphasized the need for unity in securing the future of Rivers State, noting that leadership will change, but the priority should always be the well-being of the state’s people.
