The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Emeka Beke, has reaffirmed that former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, continues to serve as the party’s leader in the state.
In a statement released on Thursday, Beke dispelled speculation that Amaechi has withdrawn from politics, emphasizing his ongoing influence and active participation within the APC, despite his public silence.
“Amaechi remains the leader of the APC in Rivers State. His contributions to the party and the state’s political landscape are monumental and cannot be overlooked,” Beke stated.
Beke made these remarks while presenting party flags to candidates in the 21 local government areas ahead of the October 5 local government elections. He assured that Amaechi fully supports the APC’s involvement in the upcoming polls and the candidates running.
He also urged security agencies to remain neutral and ensure a peaceful, free, and fair election. Beke further criticized former governor Nyesom Wike’s administration while praising the current governor, Siminalayi Fubara, for being “God-fearing” and committed to maintaining peace in the state.
Beke concluded by stating that all APC candidates have been screened and are qualified by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), encouraging security forces to act against any disruptions during the election.
