Nasarawa to Hold Local Government Poll on November 2

-

The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) has confirmed that local government elections will take place across the state’s 13 local government areas on Saturday, November 2, 2024. This election will cover both chairmanship and councillorship positions.

NASIEC Chairman, Ayuba Wandai-Usman, announced the election date during a press briefing in Lafia on Wednesday. He emphasized the commission’s dedication to ensuring a smooth democratic process in collaboration with the media.

The last local government elections in Nasarawa were held in October 2021, with officials elected for a three-year term. As that term draws to an end, Wandai-Usman stressed the importance of a peaceful and orderly election process.

“The chairmanship and councillorship elections will be held on Saturday, 2nd November 2024. Nomination papers for the elections are to be submitted at the commission’s headquarters, Democracy House, Shendam Road, Lafia,” Wandai-Usman stated.

He also outlined the election timeline, starting with party primaries and resolution of disputes beginning on Friday, October 11, 2024. Campaigns for both chairmanship and councillorship candidates will commence on Friday, October 18, 2024. The final list of nominated candidates will be published on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.

Wandai-Usman urged Nasarawa citizens to participate actively in the upcoming elections and called for peaceful conduct before, during, and after the polls.
