The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has signaled its intention to suspend Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and other members involved in alleged anti-party activities. This announcement was made during a media briefing at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday.
APGA’s National Chairman, Chief Edozie Njoku, accused Soludo of obstructing efforts by the Supreme Court-recognized NWC to restore unity within the party while continuing his anti-party conduct. Njoku indicated that the names of those to be suspended, including Soludo, will be revealed on Thursday, September 26, 2024.
Addressing the upcoming governorship election, Njoku stated that the party has yet to endorse a single candidate for the race and expressed doubt over Soludo’s chances of securing the party’s nomination through the primaries. He emphasized that all aspiring candidates must participate in a fair and transparent primary process.
Njoku remarked, “Just recently, about a week or two ago, we left the Court of Appeal, where an application was made to prevent my recognition by INEC, despite the Supreme Court’s clear ruling that my removal as National Chairman of APGA was unjustifiable.”
He criticized Soludo for allegedly attempting to undermine the party’s candidate nomination process, stating, “He has gone forward to get the House of Assembly to adopt a law whereby the party cannot field its candidates.”
The National Chairman warned that no individual, including Soludo, is greater than the party. He emphasized the importance of maintaining party integrity, asserting, “No one is bigger than the party,” and noted that the NWC had reached a consensus on the need for suspensions to prevent the party from appearing ineffective.
Njoku reiterated his commitment to peace within the party but stressed that necessary actions must be taken to address the situation, stating, “We must nip this in the bud.” He added, “I don’t know what Soludo is playing at, but he must conform to the party’s expectations.”
The situation within APGA remains tense as the party prepares for crucial local government elections in Anambra State on September 28, 2024.
