The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed confidence in its position despite the recent defection of several party chieftains to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
On Wednesday, former federal lawmakers, including Akinlaja Joseph, Lad Alaba Ojomo, Victor Akinjo, Gboluga Ikengboju, and former state House of Assembly Speaker Jumoke Akindele, announced their switch to the APC.
In response, PDP’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ayo Fadaka, stated that the party remains undeterred and is poised to win the upcoming governorship election on November 16. He emphasized that the defectors had already distanced themselves from the party’s activities before their formal departure.
Fadaka remarked, “We take due cognizance of the actions of some people led by Joseph Akinlaja that have since joined the APC. Prior to their action, they were completely detached from developments within our party. One of them, who sought our governorship ticket, was sponsored by the APC as a commissioner.”
He dismissed the defectors as “rolling stones” who lack political stability and asserted that they would not contribute anything beneficial to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the APC.
Fadaka encouraged those remaining in the APC to consider joining the PDP, stating that many influential members of the APC have already aligned themselves with the PDP’s vision for the state’s development.
