Troops from the Nigerian Army’s 6 Division in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, have intensified operations to dismantle illegal oil bunkering activities in the Niger Delta region. These efforts, in coordination with other security agencies, have resulted in the destruction of over 37 illegal refining sites and the identification of 10 illegal connection points. Additionally, six wooden boats used for transporting stolen oil were destroyed.
According to Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah, the troops have also arrested nine suspected oil thieves and seized various vehicles and motorcycles used in the illicit trade. Confiscated items include over 221,000 litres of illegally refined products and several pumping machines.
In Rivers State, around the Imo River and Odogwa Creeks, troops intercepted over 15,000 litres of stolen crude and deactivated multiple illegal refining sites. Similar operations in Delta, Edo, and Akwa Ibom States led to further arrests and the confiscation of tanker trucks, drums, and crude oil products.
Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding the 6 Division, reaffirmed the division’s commitment to eradicating criminal elements and boosting oil production in the region. Arrested suspects have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.
