A fatal accident on Lagos’ Third Mainland Bridge yesterday resulted in the death of one person and left eight others injured. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that two Mazda commercial buses collided head-on near Ilaje, en route to Iyana-Oworonsoki.
LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs, Taofiq Adebayo, stated that both buses were involved in a reckless high-speed chase before the crash. Swift action by LASTMA officials and the Lagos State Ambulance Services ensured the injured were rushed to Gbagada General Hospital.
Police from Bariga and Alonge stations assisted in securing the scene. LASTMA urged motorists to drive cautiously and follow speed limits to avoid such tragedies.
In a separate incident earlier, a Honda CRV overturned on the bridge near the University of Lagos waterfront. No casualties were reported.
