The Nigerian presidency has drawn a comparison between Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), and former U.S. President Donald Trump. This comparison was made in a social media post by Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Bola Tinubu.
Ajayi likened Obi to Trump, noting similarities in their rhetorical styles. He claimed that both Obi and Trump use “negative epithets” to describe their respective nations in a bid to rally their supporters. The comparison was made following Trump’s recent clash with Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris in a U.S. presidential debate.
In his post, Ajayi praised Harris for her performance in the debate, stating that she had skillfully addressed Trump’s weaknesses and exposed false claims made by the former president. Ajayi mentioned that Harris convincingly won the debate, with only one incorrect claim reported compared to Trump’s 33 false claims during the 90-minute debate.
The debate, held on Tuesday night, provided a significant opportunity for U.S. voters to evaluate the candidates’ positions on various issues, including immigration, abortion rights, and the economy.
