Presidential System Breeds Dictatorship, Says Ex-AGF Agabi

-

Former Attorney General of the Federation, Kanu Agabi, has criticized Nigeria’s presidential system of government, claiming it fosters dictatorship. Speaking at the 23rd Mike Okonkwo Annual Lecture in Lagos, Agabi argued that concentrating executive power in one person leads to abuse of authority, deviating from the intended role of uniting the nation.

Agabi also warned that Nigeria’s overreliance on prayer is not enough to solve its problems, calling for action and systemic change. He expressed a preference for a parliamentary system and urged Nigerians to take responsibility for their country’s future rather than relying on unqualified leaders and corrupt practices.
