Nicki Minaj Surprises Fans with Pidgin English Tweets
American rapper Nicki Minaj recently stunned her Nigerian fans by tweeting in Pidgin English, sparking widespread amazement and excitement across social media. In her first tweet, she expressed frustration, asking her followers to stop lying about her, using a mix of Pidgin and English. A curious fan, surprised by her use of Pidgin, asked who taught her the language. Nicki responded confidently, explaining that she reads the Pidgin her Nigerian fans frequently post on her timeline, demonstrating her familiarity with the language.
Nicki continued to engage with her Nigerian followers by tweeting more in Pidgin, announcing a new alter ego and playfully referring to herself as “Oluwanika the ninja” and “Oluwaniki the OGA @ the TOP.” This playful use of Pidgin delighted her Nigerian fans, who responded with a mix of admiration and humor, with some even suggesting that Nicki might have had help crafting her tweets.
The rapper’s connection to Nigerian culture isn’t entirely new. She has previously collaborated with Nigerian superstar Davido on the track “Holy Ground” from his “Timeless” album. Additionally, she has shown support for Nigerian celebrities, including BBNaija’s Tacha, whom she followed on Instagram after Tacha recreated one of Nicki’s iconic red carpet looks.
