Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has announced that the new 6,000-capacity Edo Arena will be named “Rema’s Dome” in honor of global Afrobeats star Rema.
The announcement was made during the groundbreaking ceremony for the arena on Wednesday in Benin City. Rema, who was in town for his homecoming concert at Ogbe Stadium, joined Governor Obaseki at the event and participated in laying the first block for the arena.
Governor Obaseki shared the news via X, stating, “It was a pleasure to have our global music icon @heisrema, join me in performing the groundbreaking ceremony for the 6,000-capacity Edo Arena. The arena, which will be called ‘Rema’s Dome,’ is located at the former Garrick Memorial School Ground on Ekenhuan Road in Benin City.”
The governor highlighted that the arena will host a range of events, including concerts, national conferences, symposiums, and other significant gatherings. He also noted that the new venue will attract more visitors to Edo State, showcasing the region’s rich culture and creating job opportunities for local youths.
Rema, whose real name is Divine Ikubor, hails from Benin City and has been a prominent ambassador for Edo State, using his music to promote the state and its heritage.
