Kano LG Elections: NNPP Instructs Aspirants to Resign by August 30

-

The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) has mandated all party aspirants in the upcoming local government elections to resign from their appointments before August 30, 2024.

During a press briefing, the NNPP State Chairman, Hashimu Sulaiman Dungurawa, revealed that the party has acquired scratch cards to verify the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results of its candidates. The cards will be used to authenticate the WAEC and NECO records of those vying for chairmanship and councillorship positions.

Dungurawa explained that this internal verification process is aimed at ensuring that all NNPP candidates meet the necessary qualifications as stipulated by the electoral commission.

Additionally, the party has introduced fees for prospective candidates. Chairmanship aspirants are required to pay a nomination fee of N500,000 and an Expression of Interest fee of N100,000. Councillorship aspirants will need to pay N150,000 for the nomination form and N50,000 for the Expression of Interest.

“We are aware of the current economic challenges caused by federal policies and the importance of fostering participatory democracy,” Dungurawa stated, emphasizing the party’s commitment to inclusivity.

He also instructed all civil servants interested in contesting to resign from their positions by the end of August, in line with the Kano State Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) guidelines.
