Dr. Henry Ayuk, the Cross River State Commissioner for Health, has announced that the construction of a new general hospital worth 470 million naira is currently in progress in the state.
In an interview marking his first year in office, Dr. Ayuk revealed that the state governor approved the project, which will be situated in the Ikom local government area. He described this initiative as the most significant statement of infrastructure development by the current administration.
Dr. Ayuk emphasized that the administration is committed to revitalizing outdated healthcare infrastructure and building new facilities to enhance service delivery. He noted that previously inactive facilities are now operational and providing essential health services, particularly in rural communities.
“The approval of 470 million naira for the rapid construction of the General Hospital in Ikom represents a major commitment to infrastructure development by the Otu-led administration,” Dr. Ayuk stated.
Additional achievements include the recruitment of 33 medical doctors, 22 pharmacists, and 153 nurses. The commissioner also highlighted the inauguration of a task force aimed at eliminating fraudulent practices within the health sector.
Furthermore, Dr. Ayuk announced that the state’s Tuberculosis program has been strengthened with the deployment of 36 TBLS and their assistants across the 18 local government areas.
