Uche Nnadi, National Chairman of the Action People’s Party (APP), has condemned the bombing of the party’s Rivers State secretariat as an act of terrorism and treason.
Speaking to the press in Port Harcourt on Monday, Nnadi described the early morning explosion at the APP office in the GRA area of the city as a deliberate and criminal attack.
The bombing occurred shortly after a late-night meeting of party members, who had fortunately left the premises just before the incident. Nnadi expressed relief that no lives were lost, attributing their safety to divine intervention.
“This is a tragic day for democracy,” Nnadi said. “We strongly condemn this bombing as a heinous act of terrorism and treason. We are thankful that no one was harmed, as the attack happened after our members had left the office.”
Nnadi linked the attack to the ongoing political instability in the state and the upcoming local government elections scheduled for October 5, 2024. He suggested that the bombing might be an attempt to disrupt the party’s growing support and undermine the electoral process.
The APP chairman also called on President and security agencies to take action against the perpetrators. He stressed that such violent tactics were meant to instill fear and prevent the party’s progress.
“We urge the President and security leaders to pursue these criminals and bring them to justice,” Nnadi stated. “Despite these attempts to deter us, we remain resolute. Our members and supporters should continue to rally around the party, and we are confident that the APP will make a significant impact in the forthcoming elections.”
He concluded by reinforcing the party’s commitment to the electoral process and the well-being of Rivers State’s residents, promising that the APP will not be intimidated by these acts of violence.
