The release of Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, from Kirikiri Correctional Centre has sparked a wave of reactions online. The controversial cross-dresser was freed on Monday morning after serving a six-month sentence.
A video shared on X shows Bobrisky greeting his supporters, who had gathered to welcome him back. In April, Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced Bobrisky to jail without the option of a fine for Naira abuse, aiming to set an example for others.
Following his release, many netizens took to X to comment. User @toolzmoney remarked, “Bobrisky after finally regaining his freedom. Una sure say this guy go prison?” Another user, @OloriSupergal, celebrated with, “Bobrisky aka Mummy of Laygurrrrrrsssss is back!!!!”
User @iamaleshinloye1 wrote, “Congratulations to all Nigerians,” while @peace_igho observed, “See as Bobrisky dey glow. Abi make I go prison??” Tweep @ehime24 added, “Deep in our hearts, we all know Bobrisky did not go to prison……Omo get money OOO, make prison no be like a vacation.”
Chioma Agwuegbo, using the handle @ChiomaChuka, criticized the situation: “A reminder that Bobrisky’s incarceration was unjust, heavy-handed, and targeted. There are several videos of politicians and their families spraying naira; NONE of them have been arrested or jailed. A bad thing is a bad thing.”

In a statement following his release, Bobrisky advised Nigerians to adhere to the country’s laws and respect the Naira, warning against its abuse. He said, “You have to follow the rules and abide by the laws. Don’t spray money, or you will become a landlord in Kirikiri. It is not just about killing or any criminal activity that can bring you to prison. Something light as spraying of naira can take you there.”
Bobrisky expressed gratitude to his friends and supporters, focusing on positive energy and their role in his journey.
