Manchester United and Chelsea are both set to pursue Porto striker Samuel Omorodion in the upcoming summer transfer window, with both clubs seeing the 20-year-old as a key target.
Chelsea was heavily linked with Omorodion during the recent transfer market, reportedly agreeing a £35 million fee with Atletico Madrid. However, the move to Stamford Bridge fell through, and the Spain Under-23 international instead joined Porto. Since his move to the Portuguese club, Omorodion has been in superb form, netting 11 goals in 11 appearances across all competitions during the 2024-25 season.
Omorodion’s current tally includes seven goals from seven league matches and four goals from three Europa League appearances, including a brace against Manchester United last month.
According to Fichajes, Chelsea is expected to rekindle their interest in Omorodion next summer, but they will face stiff competition from Manchester United, who have also made the striker a priority target. Porto, however, is determined to retain their star player, with the club pointing to his €100 million (£83.3 million) release clause as a deterrent for any potential suitors in 2025.
Omorodion’s journey began with Granada before he moved to Atletico Madrid in 2023. Despite signing a five-year deal, he did not make a single appearance for Atletico and was subsequently loaned to Alaves for the 2023-24 season, where he scored eight goals in La Liga. In addition, he played a key role in helping Spain win Olympic gold at the 2024 Paris Games.
Reflecting on his challenging summer, Omorodion admitted that his time at Atletico Madrid was tough, as he trained separately and felt disconnected from the team. “It was a very difficult summer. I had a bad time. But in the end, everything turned out well,” he told EFE, adding that the failed move to Chelsea was for the best.
At Porto, Omorodion has quickly established himself as one of the club’s top performers, scoring his first hat-trick for the team last month in their league match against AVS.
