Nigeria’s U20 women’s football team, the Falconets, lost 3-1 to Germany in their second Group D match at the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia on Thursday. The match took place at Estadio Metropolitano de Techo in Bogota.
Germany took an early lead in the 17th minute through Sehitler Alara after a defensive mistake by Nigeria. The Falconets equalized in the 50th minute with a goal from Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, but Sofie Zdebel restored Germany’s lead in the 61st minute. A third goal by Sarah Ernst sealed the victory for Germany.
Despite a disallowed goal for Nigeria by VAR, Germany topped the group with six points, while Nigeria sits in second place with three. The Falconets will now face Venezuela on Saturday, needing a win to progress to the knockout stage.
