Gunmen, reportedly clad in military uniform, carried out an attack on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, resulting in the death of a woman and the abduction of seven individuals. The incident occurred in the Fidiwo area on Monday, where armed assailants intercepted a vehicle, fired shots, and kidnapped seven passengers, escaping into the nearby bush.
According to an anonymous source, a female passerby in another vehicle attempted to flee the scene upon witnessing the attack but was shot and left in critical condition. Additionally, another unidentified woman was fatally shot by the armed men during the incident.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that the police have launched a manhunt for the suspected kidnappers. The victims, including parents, were traveling from Akure to Lagos when the armed assailants struck.
Odutola reported, “Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun, ordered a bush-combing exercise into the Bamboo Forest to rescue the kidnapped victims from the incident.” The police operation, coordinated by senior officers, resulted in the successful rescue of one victim, who has since been reunited with the family.
The Commissioner of Police assured residents of Ogun State that efforts are underway to rescue the remaining victims. The incident underscores the need for continued vigilance and security measures on major highways.
