UK-based podcaster Tolani Soneye recently hosted Nigerian Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage on her latest episode of The Receipts Podcast, where they engaged in a candid conversation covering various aspects of the singer’s life. The episode, known for its unfiltered discussions, provided Tiwa with a platform to share her thoughts on aging, success, relationships, and empowerment.
During the conversation, Tiwa reflected on her journey to success at an older age. Despite facing age-shaming and criticism, she expressed pride in her accomplishments, especially as an example for others, particularly young women. She opened up about the challenges of being criticized for wearing revealing clothing at her age, but stood firm in her belief that she has the body to pull it off. Tiwa also shared how she believes that her son will grow up proud of her, in contrast to the critics who question her choices.
Tiwa said, “They try so hard to age-shame me. Every single day, they say a woman of your age still wearing a bikini. But I have the body. It’s the most celebrated when you look good in your older age, but they will always throw things like when her son grows up, he is going to see this.” However, Tiwa asserted that her son will see her as a powerful and beautiful woman. Reflecting on her late rise to fame, Tiwa emphasized that her success in her 30s was designed to inspire others, particularly younger women who might feel they are running out of time. “I used to be like, why was I not successful in my 20s, but it is to bless other people,” she said.
The conversation also delved into her relationship experiences. Tiwa revealed that she has never left a partner solely because of infidelity. Instead, she ended relationships due to issues like emotional abuse, drug abuse, dishonesty, and other personal struggles. She admitted that her focus has always been on her well-being, and that she believes in the power of monogamy, despite not having had satisfying experiences in past relationships.
The episode of The Receipts Podcast, which has built a reputation for its insightful and honest conversations, provided a non-judgmental space for Tiwa to share her personal experiences and thoughts on a wide range of topics. Tolani Soneye, the host, is a seasoned media professional who has worked with notable organizations like BuzzFeed and the BBC.
