The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, has called on the Nigerian Super Eagles to pursue victory in their upcoming match against Libya. This clash is part of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, scheduled for Friday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Diana-Mary Nsan, Enoh emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and warned against complacency as they prepare to face the Mediterranean Knights. He stated, “Your solid start in the qualifiers has put you in a favorable position to secure a place in the 2025 AFCON tournament. Nonetheless, you must guard your position, as the Mediterranean Knights will aim to defy expectations, seeking at least a draw in Uyo. Never undermine your opponents. The nation will be rooting for you; make us proud, and good luck.”
Super Eagles Head Coach, Augustine Eguavoen, is optimistic about the team’s performance, targeting a maximum of six points from the double-header fixtures. “There are possibilities and opportunities for us to sail home at the end of these two matches, and we will do our best to take our chances and secure the ticket,” Eguavoen remarked.
Currently, Nigeria sits with four points from two matches, placing them one point ahead of Benin Republic and two ahead of Rwanda. A double win over Libya would elevate the Eagles’ points to 10.
