SFU Grills Edo ALGON Chairman Over Alleged Financial Transactions

-

The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Edo State, Hon. Sunday Akiotu who also serves as the Acting Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Area, is reportedly being interrogated by operatives of the Special Fraud Unit (SFU) over allegations bordering on financial transactions involving council funds.

Sources familiar with the investigation disclosed that the Acting Chairman is being questioned over alleged transfers from local government accounts into personal bank accounts and accounts allegedly linked to associates.

Recall that invitations were reportedly extended in March to the Acting Chairman and three other senior officials of the council following a petition and press briefing organized by Integrity Advocacy for Development Initiative.

Although details of the ongoing investigation remain sketchy, sources say investigators are examining financial records and transactions connected to the allegations.

Efforts to obtain official comments from the leadership of the Special Fraud Unit, including the Commissioner of Police overseeing the unit CP. Olawo, were ongoing as of the time of filing this report.

More details are expected to emerge as investigations continue.
