APC Sweeps All Local Government Council Seats in Jigawa

-

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 27 local government chairmanship seats in the recent elections held in Jigawa State, as declared by the Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission (JISIEC). This announcement was made by JISIEC spokesperson, Habibu Yarima, in a statement on Sunday.

According to Yarima, election results were declared at local government headquarters and ward collation centers across the state’s 27 local government areas. The APC also secured 281 out of the 287 councillorship positions contested in the local government council elections, which took place on Saturday, October 5.

However, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won a councillorship seat in Margadu Ward, Guri Local Government Area, while the Accord Party secured four seats in Ajaura Ward (Taura LGA), Kanwa Ward (Jahun LGA), Maiaduwa Ward (Gagarawa LGA), and Guntusu Ward (Gwaiwa LGA).

The councillorship seat for Dubantu Ward in Hadejia Local Government was not declared due to disagreements over result collation and the destruction of some ballot boxes, according to the statement.

JISIEC’s Executive Chairman, Hon. Auwalu Muhammad Harbo, has presented certificates of return to the winners of the 27 local government chairman seats.

In response to the election results, Jigawa State APC Chairman, Hon. Aminu Sani Gumel, congratulated party members on their landslide victory. Meanwhile, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expressed opposition to the election results.
