Hannatu Musawa, the Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy, has again declined to clarify the controversy surrounding her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate scandal. During an appearance on Channels Television’s *Politics Today* on Sunday, Musawa insisted that she would not be distracted by the issue.
The controversy arose when Musawa failed to provide evidence to the Senate that she had completed the mandatory NYSC scheme during her screening in 2023, after President Bola Tinubu nominated her for a ministerial position. Despite this, Musawa was confirmed as a minister, although legal challenges followed, with some individuals arguing that she obtained the appointment without fulfilling the NYSC requirement.
In April 2024, the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed the case, with Justice James Omotosho ruling that the plaintiffs lacked the legal standing to sue.
Reflecting on the matter after a year in office, Musawa stated, “There have been many different versions of that situation. The fact that I am sitting here means I didn’t do anything wrong.” She also noted that she has yet to provide her own account of events, claiming that social media had fueled various narratives. Musawa added, “I have probably done more NYSC than you (the presenter). I have done at least two NYSCs in my life.”
