Ogun Transport Union Leaders Vow to Curb Arbitrary Fare Hikes

-

Transport union leaders in Ogun State have pledged to support the state government’s efforts to prevent arbitrary increases in transportation fares following the recent fuel price hike. This commitment was made after a meeting with Governor Dapo Abiodun, where the need to protect citizens from exorbitant transport costs was discussed.

Alhaji Akeem Bodunrin, Chairman of the Ogun State Park Management Scheme (OGSPAM), assured the public that the union will cooperate with the governor to ease the financial burden on residents. He noted that union ticket prices have not been raised and expressed optimism that the cost of fuel will decrease with the introduction of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and e-bikes.

Alhaji Mustapha Ismail, state chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), urged residents to be patient as the state government plans to roll out 100 CNG-enabled buses, which are expected to lower transportation costs.

Other union leaders, including those from the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), praised Governor Abiodun’s initiatives in the transport sector. They pledged to support his vision, emphasizing that the introduction of CNG buses and e-bikes would significantly reduce transport fares in the state.

These leaders also highlighted the positive impact of e-bikes on transport fare regimes and called on traders to adopt a friendly pricing strategy to complement the government’s efforts.
