The North East Unity Forum (NUF) and the Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed Vanguard, supporters of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, have criticized Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike for his recent threats and alleged anti-party activities against governors of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who support his successor, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
On August 24, the PDP Governors’ Forum endorsed Fubara and urged the party leadership to officially recognize him as the leader of the party in Rivers State. In response, Wike warned of potential political instability in Rivers if any governor challenged his political influence during a PDP congress in Port Harcourt last Saturday.
Abubakar Kabir, convener of the North East Unity Forum, condemned Wike’s threats as undemocratic and called for his removal from the Minister of FCT position. Kabir’s statement criticized Wike for his perceived betrayal of his political benefactors, including Rotimi Amaechi, Goodluck Jonathan, and Patience Jonathan. Kabir described Wike’s actions as indicative of his disloyalty and suggested that his continued presence in the party threatens national stability.
Similarly, the Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed Vanguard, led by Director-General Mohammed Jibo, demanded punitive measures against Wike. The group accused Wike of undermining the PDP’s 2023 presidential campaign and criticized his threats as reckless and damaging to the party’s unity. They called for Wike’s suspension or expulsion from the PDP to prevent further disruption before the 2027 general elections.
The Vanguard also emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability in Bauchi State, urging that Wike’s actions should not be allowed to jeopardize the state’s tranquility and development. They expressed strong support for the PDP Governors’ Forum’s decision to support Governor Fubara and highlighted Governor Bala Mohammed’s efforts to ensure peace and progress in Bauchi State.
