Nollywood has been plunged into mourning with the passing of Adejumoke Aderounmu, renowned for her role as “Esther” in Funke Akindele’s hit TV series, Jenifa’s Diary.
The sad news was confirmed by her brother, Adeola Aderounmu, through a cryptic Instagram post captioned, “You are in a better place now, my sister,” accompanied by Aderounmu’s obituary photo.
In addition, a close friend of the deceased’s cousin, Oluwabanke Funmi, expressed her grief on Twitter, writing, “Rest in peace Aderounmu Adejumoke.”
The actress, born on March 26, 1984, breathed her last on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at a private hospital. The cause of her demise has not been disclosed.
A funeral service has already been conducted for Aderounmu Adejumoke at Owu Baptist Church, Totoro area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.
A heartfelt obituary graphic shared on social media by her family described her as “our sister, daughter, aunt.”
Aderounmu’s acting journey began in Abeokuta, her birthplace, where she honed her skills before delving into the professional acting scene. Her breakthrough came in 2016 when she portrayed Esther in “Jenifa’s Diary,” captivating audiences with her portrayal of the resilient character.
With over ten movie credits to her name in both English and Yoruba productions, Adejumoke proved her versatility and commitment to her craft. From her early role as Yejide in “Dazzling Mirage” to her memorable performances in “Industreet” and “Alakada 2,” she left an indelible mark on the industry.
Aderounmu’s legacy will be remembered for her passion, talent, and dedication to her art, leaving behind a void in Nollywood that will be hard to fill.
