In a recent development, the Ekiti State Police Command brought charges against Emmanuel Chukwuebuka (23) and Bayode Olufemi (28) before an Ado Ekiti Magistrate Court for their alleged involvement in theft.
The duo is accused of stealing building materials and a generator with an estimated value of N720,000. According to Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, the police prosecutor, the defendants conspired on November 12, around 11 am in Ado Ekiti, to commit the felony of stealing.
Oriyomi specified that the stolen items included white cement, cement, 70kg of filler, and a Tiger generator, all valued at N720,000, belonging to Durojaye Emmanuel. The charges brought against them fall under Sections 421 and 302 (1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.
During the court proceedings, the defense counsel, Adunni Olanipekun, requested bail for her clients in the interest of a fair hearing, assuring the court that they would not evade bail. She further pledged to provide credible sureties.
Magistrate Mr. Bankole Oluwasanmi granted bail to the defendants, fixing the amount at N80,000 each, along with one surety. The case has been adjourned until January 17, 2024.
