    NYSC- DG tasks corps members on sustaining high level of discipline

    The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Kaku Fadah has tasked 2022 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Corps members deployed to the Federal Capital Territory to maintain and sustain the high level of discipline, enthusiasm and compliance with camp rules and regulations.

    Fadah, made the call during the Official Opening and Swearing -in Ceremony of the 2022 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Corps Members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Kubwa.

    Ably represented by the NYSC FCT Coordinator, Alhaji Suleman Abdul, the DG advised corps members to continue to distance themselves from cultism, drug abuse and other social vices as well as avoiding the use of social media for spreading fake news, fuelling hatred and other negative purposes.

    Fadah also encouraged Corp members to avail themselves of the opportunities for self- employment offered through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED).

    A total number of one thousand, eight hundred and fifty three (1,853) corps members were sworn in by the FCT Chief Judge Justice Husseini Baba represented by Justice Kayode Agunloye.

    NYSC Boss Cautions Corps Members To Beware Of Online Fraudsters

    The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim, has advised Corps Members to ignore online messages from criminals offering postings to preferred locations. 

    He gave the advice on Wednesday while addressing the 2022 Batch ‘A’ Stream One Corps Members at the Yakubu Gowon NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Fanisau, Jigawa State. 

    Ibrahim stressed that postings and relocation were done free of charge, and warned them against making payments to anyone for those purposes. 

    The Director-General further warned that it was criminal to present fake medical reports for the purpose of obtaining concessional posting, adding that anyone caught doing so would face the full wrath of the law.

    He also decried the situation whereby some Prospective Corps Members with serious illnesses conceal their conditions in the course of registering for enlistment in the National Service. 

    According to him, the essence of disclosure of true state of health by Prospective Corps Members was to help with decisions regarding their deployment, level of participation in camp activities and medical care.

    He called on Corps Members to be guided by the spirit and letters of the Oath of Allegiance they swore to both within and beyond the service period. 

    The Director-General also enjoined them to continue to preach the messages of peace and unity wherever they found themselves. 

    Ibrahim advised the Corps Members to make patriotism, honesty and hard work their watchwords, stressing that they should be focused on their dreams.

    3 corps members to repeat service year in Bauchi

    The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) has ordered three corps members deployed in Bauchi for the Batch “B” Stream 1, 2021, to repeat their service year.

    Alhaji Namadi Abubakar, the State Coordinator of the scheme, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Bauchi on Monday.

    Abubakar said that two other corps members had their service year extended by two months for leaving their places of primary assignment without permission.

    He said the action would serve as punitive measure against the erring corps members for absconding and absenteeism during the service year.

    The affected corps members, he said, were among 1,152, who passed out on Oct. 21, adding that they received NYSC Certificate of national service.

    He, however, said that 10 corps members got state honour awards for impacting positively on the lives of members of their host communities through meaningful Community Development Projects and Services executed during their service year.

    While 40 others were issued commendation letters for their respective contributions to humanity.

    The Coordinator enjoined the corps members to take advantage of the skills acquired through the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme so as to become gainfully employed.

    “They must strive for self realisation by utilising the skills acquired through the NYSC skills acquisition programme.

    “I equally urged them not to engage in social vices.

    “They must endeavour to resist the temptation of involving in unholy activities such as terrorism; robbery, kidnapping, cultism, rape and other anti state activities which will smear their image and that of their families,” he said. (NAN)

    NYSC urges 898 corps members to shun criminality

    The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has called on the 2021 Batch ‘B’ Stream 11 corps members posted to Borno to shun any form of criminality during their service year.

    The State’s NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Nura Umar, made the call on Tuesday during the swearing-in of 898 corps members posted to the state but deployed to Katsina State for their three-week orientation programme.

    He explained that out of the 898 corps members, 467 were males while 431 were females.

    According to him, by shunning criminality during their service, it is a clear indication that they are willing to protect their image, that of their families and also the country in general.

    Umar said, “You should understand that by engaging in criminal activities during the one-year period, especially drug abuse, cultism and other vices, it shows you are irresponsible.

    “With such a behaviour, it means you are not going to be the kind of leaders we expect to also have in the future. Hence, you must be a good ambassador of your family and the scheme.

    “I am calling on you to give more attention to the skill acquisition programme you are expected to be engaged in, during the period so that at the end of your service you will be able to be self-reliant, “he said.

    He assured the corps members that at the end of the three weeks course, none of them is going to be posted to areas with security threats.

    According to him, NYSC is in active collaboration with all the security agencies to safeguard the lives and property of corps members.

    He called on them to be committed to their duties and that they should also respect the culture, tradition and religion of their host communities.

    Umar urged them to take maximum advantage of the exercise to foster national unity, socio-cultural integration and peaceful coexistence. (NAN)

    Accept your postings in good faith, NYSC urges youth Corp members

    The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has urged newly posted Corp members to accept their postings in good faith.

    Alhaji Abdullahi Jikamshi, Coordinator of the scheme in Nasarawa State, gave the advice while addressing the 2021 Batch `B’ Stream I youth corps members posted to the state.

    He spoke at the official closing of the orientation course held for the corps members at the Dan Yamusa NYSC Permanent Orientation camp in Keffi Local Government Area of the state on Monday.

    Jikamshi said the postings were carefully done to enable corps members be part of the developmental agenda of the present administration by making them contribute positively in certain key areas.

    He listed such areas to include: education, healthcare delivery, social engineering, and agriculture, among others for the overall development of their host state.

    The NYSC coordinator also urged employers of youth corps members not to reject corps members, posted to their establishments.

    “I urge all corps members to accept their postings in good faith. I also urge all corps employers not to reject youth corps members posted to their establishments,” he said.

    Jikamshi assured the youth corps members that no matter where they were posted, management of the scheme in the state was committed toward making their service in Nasarawa state memorable and rewarding.

    “We shall visit you without notice at your places of primary assignment to know about how you are faring.

    “I am confident and assured that these set of corps members as agents of change will immensely contribute to the development of Nasarawa State with all dedication and commitment,’’ he said.

    The NYSC coordinator revealed that the 1,724 corps members, who successfully completed the three weeks orientation course in the state, were posted to all the local government areas of the state.

    This, he said, was in conformity with the posting policy of the scheme as directed by the Federal Government.

    He said the corps members, throughout the three weeks orientation course had been engaged in activities such as military drills, Man o’ War activities, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship development, lectures on topical issues, sports and social activities.

    Jikamshi commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for his fatherly disposition to the scheme, as well as the corps members for their cooperation, decorum, and hard work throughout the orientation course in spite of the difficult routine of maintaining Coronavirus (COVID-19) protocols.

    “I have no doubt in my mind that you will be good ambassadors of the scheme at your places of primary assignment,’’ he said.

    Do not preach division of Nigeria – NYSC DG tells Corps members

    Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has urged Corps members to shun acts capable of promoting disunity and division in the country.

    Ibrahim gave the charge on Monday during the swearing in ceremony of Batch “B” Stream 1 Corps members at the temporary NYSC Orientation Camp, Amada, Gombe State.

    He said that instead of preaching division of the country, the Corps members should be ambassadors of peace and unity.

    “Always promote the unity of the country, let the spirit of NYSC lives in you.

    “As nation builders; you must refrain from all forms of cyber crimes, drive your vision with passion, do not cut corners,” he said.

    He urged the Corps members to respect the culture and values as well as contribute meaningfully to the development of their host communities.

    The DG stressed the need for the Corps members to seek for permission before travelling in view of the spate of road accident and security challenges in the country.

    “Recently, corps members have been involved in motor accident, therefore, it is mandatory to take permission before embarking on journey,” he said.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that onnariival, the DG accompanied by camp officials went round to inspect the facilities in the camp.

    In her remark, Mrs Ada Imoni, the State Coordinator of the scheme, said the Corps members were expected to participate in four cardinal programmes during the Service year including Orientation Course, Primary Assignment, Community Development Service (CDS) and Passing Out Parade (POP).

    Imoni said the programmes were designed to instill the core values of the scheme in Corps members for effective and efficient service delivery during the service year.

    Imoni commended the effort of the DG for sustaining the visibility of the scheme via programmes such as the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD), resuscitation of NYSC half hour, and the recent inclusion of Corps members as enumerators for the Federal Government’s National Home Grown Feeding programme.

    She admonished the Corps members to adhere strictly to all COVID-19 protocols to stem spread of the pandemic.

    NYSC appoints new coordinator for Nasarawa state

    National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has appointed Mr Abdullahi Jikamshi as the new NYSC coordinator in Nasarawa State.

    This is contained in a statement signed by NYSC’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) in the state, Mrs Lucy Laha, and made available to newsmen in Lafia on Friday.

    According to Laha, Jikamshi replaces the former state coordinator, Mr Stephen Dewan, who has been redeployed to the NYSC Headquarters in Abuja.

    “Abdullahi Ahmed Jikamshi, who joined the services of the Scheme over 22 years ago, has served in various formations of the NYSC, including Kwara, Kaduna and Yobe Secretariats, as well as the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters Abuja,” she said.

    Laha added that Jikamshi was a seasoned administrator who held several key positions within the scheme including Secretary of the NYSC Kaduna State Governing Board and Secretary of the NYSC National Governing Board.

    “Until his appointment, he was Deputy Director Special Duties at the National Directorate Headquarters.

    “Abdullahi Ahmad Jikamshi is married with children,” she said. (NAN)

    NYSC gets new state coordinator in Delta

    Mr Olusegun Alao has assumed duty as the new Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Delta State.

    This is contained in a statement by Mr Chidi Nnorom, NYSC state Public Relations Officer, on Friday in Asaba.

    The statement said that Alao assumed duty on Thursday.

    It noted the new coordinator who hails from Ekiti State last served as the Deputy Director Special Duties in the Office of the NYSC Director-General.

    “In line with the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters’ sustained drive to optimise the scheme’s operations nationwide, a new state coordinator has been posted to take over the headship of NYSC Delta State secretariat.

    “He will take over from Mrs Olutayo Samuel (JP) who has been deployed to Minna, the headquarters of NYSC North Central Area office,” said the statement. (NAN)

    NIHOTOURS trains NYSC members on hospitality services

    The National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOURS), says it would train over 200 members of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in Kano, on hospitality.

    Speaking at the launch of the five-day intensive training in Kano, the Director-General of the Institute, Mr Nura Kangiwa, said on Monday that the training would impact positively on the corps members.

    Represented by Mr Ibrahim Baba, the Director, Hospitality and Programmes of the Institute, Kangiwa said the training aimed at making the Corps members self-reliant.

    According to him, “It is expected that at the end of this training, the beneficiaries will grasp the necessary skills in hospitality trades.”

    “The trades such as cookery, confectioners, dry cleaning and laundry services as well as event planning and management, will enable them set up businesses.”

    The director general said that the participants could become employers of labour after their national youths service.

    The training, according to him, is in line with the Federal government’s N-Power program presently anchored by the Institute, as a component of social investment programme.

    He commended the Federal government for the opportunity given to the youths, hoping that the training would make a great impact on the Corps members.

    Also, the state Coordinator of the NYSC in Kano Mrs Aisha Tata-Muhammed, commended the institute for organising the training.

    Represented by Mr Saminu Muhammed, the coordinator ordered the members of the corps to grab the best of the training, which might be a life changing experience to them.

    She urged them to be well behaved and attentive throughout the one day training, thus exploring the best of the training.

    Speaking at the occasion, the Kano Commissioner for Tourism and Culture, Mr Ibrahim Karaye, also commended the institute for the training.

    The commissioner represented by Mr Jamilu Sarki, Director Tourism of the Ministry, advised the members to share their acquired skills with those who were not opportuned to attend.

    NYSC deploys 1,315 corps members to Abia

    The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Monday deployed 1,315 corps members for the 2021 Batch A, Stream II orientation course to Abia for their one-year national service.

    The corps members comprising 572 males and 743 females were deployed at a closing ceremony at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Bende Local Government Area.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that it was a low-key ceremony chaired by the NYSC Abia State Coordinator, Mr Denis Jingi.

    Jingi congratulated the corps members on the successful completion of their orientation in spite of the anxiety caused by the security challenges in the country.

    He commended them for their active participation, level headedness, discipline and hard work throughout the orientation course.

    “Today, as you move into the communities of Abia State to serve the people, I urge you to put into practice, all that you have been thought during the orientation course.

    “Most importantly, I enjoin you to take your post camp skills acquisition training seriously as this will assist you perfect whatever skills you received during the orientation course,” he said.

    Jingi urged them to avail themselves of the various business funding options that they were informed about during the orientation exercise.

    According to him, it will enable them to establish their own businesses after acquiring the necessary skills of their choice, during or after your service year.

    He charged them to be good ambassadors of the scheme and not to engage in any unwholesome activities that might tarnish its good image.

    “However, in the case of any treat to life, you could reach out to any of the security agencies within your locality as provided in your orientation/ service guide,” Jingi said. (NAN)
