Eket, Akwa Ibom State – Governor Umo Eno has declared that local government councils in Akwa Ibom State have no justification for failing to execute impactful projects, particularly those that improve grassroots socio-economic conditions.
Speaking over the weekend in Eket—via his representative, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Frank Archibong—the governor made the statement while inaugurating the newly built 5,000-capacity Eket City Hall and laying the foundation stone for an ultra-modern legislative complex.
“This is a landmark project. Whenever you see this picture anywhere, you’ll know it’s Eket,” he said. “This is the ARISE Agenda at work in Eket Local Government.” Governor Eno emphasized that beyond serving Eket Senatorial District, the City Hall would also generate revenue and host events of state-wide importance.
Highlighting the day’s significance, Archibong described the three-part event—which included a N50 million grant disbursement to small business owners—as a moment that would be etched in the area’s history.
Earlier, Eket LGA Chairman Mr. Akaniyene Tommey described the City Hall as a “symbol of unity and progress,” equipped with modern offices and a mini-conference hall, all designed to attract events and boost internal revenue.
Tommey also unveiled the Eket ARISE Empowerment Initiative SmallBiz Grant, which provided N100,000 each to 500 entrepreneurs. He noted that the grant aligns with Governor Eno’s drive to support SMEs as key drivers of local economic development.
“The impact of this grant will be far-reaching—stimulating local businesses, boosting productivity, and improving the standard of living for our people,” Tommey concluded.
