Port Harcourt – The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed a fire outbreak on the Trans-Niger Delta Pipeline, operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), assuring residents that the situation is under control.
The incident, which occurred on Monday night near the border of Kpor and Bodo communities, prompted swift action from security operatives. According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the fire was detected during a routine night patrol, and SPDC was immediately alerted. The company then initiated safety protocols, including shutting down the affected pipeline.
While the cause of the fire remains unclear, Iringe-Koko did not confirm whether it was triggered by an explosion, a spill, or any militant activity. However, she disclosed that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“As part of efforts to uncover any potential act of sabotage, two individuals have been taken in for questioning,” Iringe-Koko stated.
She reassured residents that there is no ongoing threat to the environment or public safety. The police command also reaffirmed its commitment to identifying those responsible for criminal activities and ensuring the security of the state.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and vigilant while investigations continue.
