Seven rescued as troops repel terrorist attack on Gov Zulum’s convoy

-

Troops escorting the convoy of Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum successfully repelled an attempted Boko Haram ambush along the Buni Gari-Buni Yadi road on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

According to reports by counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, an unspecified number of terrorists were neutralized in the ensuing gunfight. Additionally, seven travelers who had been abducted by the insurgents were rescued unharmed.

Sources cited by the publication revealed that the convoy consisted of troops from Operation Hadin Kai, the Police Crack Team, and senior government officials. The group was returning from Biu Local Government Area when the terrorists attempted to seize travelers from a Volkswagen vehicle.

Upon encountering the insurgents, security forces engaged them in a fierce battle, compelling the terrorists to flee and abandon their captives.

Governor Zulum was not present in the convoy during the attack, as he had traveled earlier via helicopter.

Despite the ambush, all members of the convoy emerged unscathed. Security operatives also recovered weapons and motorcycles from the fleeing terrorists.

The attack underscores the persistent security challenges in Borno State, where government forces continue efforts to curb insurgent activities.
