Gunmen stormed Birnin Yaro town in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Sunday night, killing one person and abducting 20 worshippers during Isha (night) prayers.
A witness, Binyaminu Kasimu, whose father and brother were among the abducted, recounted the ordeal. “I called my father’s phone, and one of the gunmen answered, confirming they had kidnapped him,” Kasimu said.
The attackers reportedly abducted eight people from the mosque before proceeding to Banki village, where they killed a shopkeeper. Witnesses said the gunmen arrived around 7:30 PM in large numbers, creating panic in the area.
Efforts to get a response from the Zamfara State Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
This incident highlights the persistent insecurity plaguing Zamfara State and northern Nigeria, where banditry and kidnappings continue to terrorize communities despite government interventions. Residents remain anxious as attacks disrupt their daily lives.
