The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) executives in Rivers State, led by Edwin Woko, have praised the Court of Appeal in Enugu for its ruling on Friday that removed Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary.
The court upheld a High Court judgment affirming Ude Okoye as the substantive National Secretary and declared Anyanwu’s emergence as PDP’s governorship candidate a violation of the party’s constitution. Justice Ridwan Abdullahi described Anyanwu’s appeal as baseless.
Reacting to the decision, Edwin Woko lauded the judgment as a decisive end to Anyanwu’s “political gambling” within the party. He also aligned with the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) in urging the North Central zone to promptly nominate a credible candidate to replace Iyorchia Ayu as National Chairman.
Woko emphasized the importance of restoring the party’s vibrancy as a strong opposition amidst current national challenges under the APC-led government. “The BoT meeting on December 5, 2024, charged the North Central zone to select a replacement for Ayu, as mandated by Section 47 (6) of the PDP constitution,” he stated.
The call to action highlights efforts within the PDP to unify the party and reclaim its influence in Nigeria’s political landscape.
