The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested 17 individuals involved in various criminal activities, including armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, and rape, according to Commissioner of Police Umar Shehu Nadada.
In a press briefing, Nadada highlighted the command’s proactive steps to reduce crime during the festive season, including a ban on the sale and unauthorized use of fireworks. This ban aims to prevent fire outbreaks, injuries, public disturbances, and other criminal activities related to fireworks.
The arrests were made during raids in Lafia, Mararaba, and Awe, targeting known criminal hideouts. In Mararaba’s A Division, three suspects were apprehended in a residential building on Yelwa Road, where police recovered a locally made rifle and several knives. Additionally, two suspects were arrested in Agwatashi, Obi Local Government Area, for conspiring to murder a woman over a ₦40,000 debt.
Nadada stressed the importance of community support in fighting crime, thanking the public for providing useful information. He reiterated the command’s commitment to cracking down on criminal elements and ensuring a peaceful festive season for residents of Nasarawa State.
